This guide helps you choose your size for ETEVVU suits. It covers jackets, pants and vests in Regular, Big, Tall and Big and Tall sizes. Every table can be switched between inches and centimeters with the IN and CM buttons.
Which Size Range Is Right for You
Our suits come in two lengths, Regular (R) and Long (L), shown as Tall in the tables. R and L describe the length of the jacket, sleeves and pants. They do not change how full the suit is. A 42R and a 42L have the same chest, waist and shoulder measurements. The 42L is simply longer in the body, sleeves and legs.
- Regular (R): for heights up to about 6 ft 0 in (183 cm). Jackets 34R to 46R.
- Big (R): for heights up to about 6 ft 0 in (183 cm) with a body chest of about 47 inches (119.5 cm) or more, or a waist of 42 inches (106.5 cm) or more. Jackets 48R to 60R.
- Tall (L): for heights of about 6 ft 1 in to 6 ft 4 in (185 to 193 cm). Jackets 34L to 46L.
- Big and Tall (L): for heights of about 6 ft 1 in to 6 ft 4 in (185 to 193 cm) with a body chest of about 47 inches (119.5 cm) or more, or a waist of 42 inches (106.5 cm) or more. Jackets 48L to 60L.
- Over 6 ft 4 in (193 cm): standard Long sizes may still be too short. We recommend made to measure, cut from your own measurements.
Ready to wear or made to measure. Our ready to wear suits come in Regular length, in jacket sizes 34R to 54R. Each product page shows the sizes available for that suit. Jacket sizes 56R to 60R, and all Tall and Big and Tall sizes, are available through our made to measure service.
If you are between 6 ft 0 in and 6 ft 1 in, compare the sleeve and jacket length of a jacket you own with both lengths before you choose.
How to Use This Guide
- Measure your body first. Use a soft tape measure over lightweight clothing. For your jacket and vest size, measure your chest. For your pant size, measure your waist and hips.
- Choose your length. Use your height to decide between Regular and Long. Your jacket, pants and vest should usually share the same length.
- Find your size by body measurement. Your jacket and vest size number matches your body chest in inches, and each size fits about one inch either side. A 44 inch (112 cm) chest wears a 44, and so does a 43 or 45 inch chest. For pants, find the size where your body waist falls.
- Check the garment measurements. All columns except Body are measurements of the finished suit. Chest, waist, hip, thigh and upper arm are full circumferences, not flat half widths. They are larger than your body so you can move and sit comfortably. If you own a suit that fits you well, measure it the same way and compare.
- Size each piece separately. You can choose your jacket, pant and vest sizes separately. Many men wear a different jacket and pant size, especially with an athletic or larger build.
Quick Measuring Tips
- Height: stand straight against a wall without shoes.
- Body chest: measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, with the tape level.
- Body waist: measure around your body where you normally wear your waistband, keeping the tape level and comfortably snug.
- Body hip: measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level.
- Stomach: if your stomach is close to or larger than your chest, also measure around the fullest part of your stomach. It helps us check that the jacket will button comfortably.
- Stand relaxed and ask someone to help if you can. Our How to Measure guide has step by step instructions.
Letter Size Reference
Our size options use number sizes, such as 40R for jackets and 34R for pants. If you usually shop by letter size, use this reference as a starting point, then confirm your number size with your body measurements. Each letter size covers two number sizes, so always choose the number size that matches your measurement, then add R or L for your length.
Note: in this reference, S means Small. It does not mean Short length.

Size Examples
- Average build, Regular length: height 5 ft 10 in (178 cm), body chest 40 in (101.5 cm), waist 34 in (86.5 cm), hips 42 in (106.5 cm). Jacket 40R, pants 34R, vest 40 Standard.
- Athletic build, Regular length: height 5 ft 11 in (180 cm), body chest 44 in (112 cm), waist 33 in (84 cm), hips 40 in (101.5 cm). Jacket 44R, pants 32R, vest 44 Standard. Check the thigh measurement too, since athletic legs often need more room.
- Big build, Regular length: height 5 ft 9 in (175 cm), body chest 56 in (142 cm), waist 52 in (132 cm). Jacket 56R, pants 52R, vest 56 Standard, through made to measure.
- Tall build: height 6 ft 3 in (190.5 cm), body chest 42 in (106.5 cm), waist 36 in (91.5 cm). Jacket 42L, pants 36L, vest 42 Tall, through made to measure.
- Big and Tall build: height 6 ft 2 in (188 cm), body chest 54 in (137 cm), waist 50 in (127 cm). Jacket 54L, pants 50L, vest 54 Tall, through made to measure.
Your vest size is usually the same number as your jacket size, in the matching length. A 40R jacket pairs with a 40 Standard vest, and a 40L jacket pairs with a 40 Tall vest.
Fit Notes
Modern Regular Fit. Our jackets are shaped through the body without being tight. There is enough room to button the jacket comfortably, raise your arms for a toast and sit through dinner. Regular and Long sizes share the same fit.
Regular length. Regular sizes are made for heights up to about 6 ft 0 in (183 cm). If you are noticeably shorter than average, check the sleeve and jacket length against a jacket you own before ordering.
Long length. Long sizes add length to the jacket body, sleeves and pants for heights of about 6 ft 1 in to 6 ft 4 in (185 to 193 cm).
Pants need hemming. Regular pants are sent unhemmed with a 35 inch (89 cm) inseam, and Long pants with a 37 inch (94 cm) inseam. The unhemmed inseam is not the finished length, so plan to have a tailor hem your pants before the wedding. This usually costs little and takes a few days.
How we measure sleeves. The jacket table shows sleeve length two ways. Shoulder to cuff is measured from the shoulder point to the end of the cuff. Center back to cuff is measured from the middle of the back of the collar, across the shoulder and down to the cuff, which is how most American dress shirt sleeves are sized. A jacket sleeve is usually about half an inch shorter than your shirt sleeve, so a little shirt cuff shows. Center back values are close estimates and may vary slightly.
How we measure jacket length. Jacket length is measured from the center back collar seam to the bottom hem. If you compare with another brand, check how they measure first.
Between sizes? If your measurement falls on the line between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. A tailor can take in a jacket or pants more easily than let them out.
Small differences are normal. Because suits are cut and sewn by hand, finished measurements may vary slightly from the chart.
Made to Measure for Big, Tall and Big and Tall
Jacket sizes 56R to 60R, and all Tall and Big and Tall sizes, are made through our made to measure service rather than kept in stock. Use the tables to find your closest size, then send us your measurements so we can confirm the size or adjust it before cutting. If your stomach is close to or larger than your chest, let us know, and we will add room at the jacket waist so it buttons comfortably.
Made to measure is also the better choice if:
- You are taller than 6 ft 4 in (193 cm)
- Your chest and waist fall into sizes that are far apart
- Your shoulders fit one size but your arms or waist fit another
- You want the fit right without relying on alterations
Made to measure suits are cut for you and cannot be returned, so please measure carefully and contact us if anything is unclear. See our Returns and Refunds policy for details, and learn how the process works on our Made to Measure Wedding Suits page.
Sizing a Wedding Party
Ask each groomsman to measure his height, chest, waist and hips with a tape measure rather than guessing from his usual shirt or T shirt size. Sizes from other brands vary, and a quick measurement helps avoid returns and reorders close to the wedding date.
If your party includes both ready to wear and made to measure sizes, email us before you order. We will confirm the colors and fabrics so the whole group matches, and help you time the orders together.
Still Not Sure?
Send us your height, weight, chest, waist and hip measurements, and we will suggest a size and length. Email service@etevvu.com or visit our Contact Us page. We reply within 24 hours on business days. If a ready to wear size does not work out, see our Returns and Refunds policy.
